What this free check gives you

CheckThePlate provides available MOT test dates, results, advisory and failure entries, and recorded odometer readings. These are a useful starting point for reviewing the car’s recorded test history.

What it does not establish

MOT history does not establish whether a vehicle has outstanding finance, is recorded stolen or has an insurance write-off marker. Those questions require different data sources. This version of CheckThePlate does not provide those checks.

Missing and clear are different results

When a service is unavailable or a data source has not been queried, there is no basis for showing a clear result. Read the coverage information carefully. The available report labels information that has not been checked.

Compare a provider’s actual coverage

If you use another vehicle history provider, inspect its coverage, limitations and sample report. A longer list of features is useful only if those records are actually supplied for the vehicle and the provider explains what missing data means.

A report still leaves physical questions

A record-based check does not inspect a car, confirm its present mechanical condition or verify the seller’s claims about repairs. Use the history to prepare questions and decide what evidence or inspection you need.

Choose based on the question you need answered

Start with the available MOT and mileage history. If you need finance, theft or write-off information, use a service that actually provides those checks. CheckThePlate’s paid tiers are not currently available.
