A clearer starting point before you buy
CheckThePlate is an independent vehicle checker built to bring available MOT and mileage records into an accessible report. The aim is to help you ask informed questions about a car before a viewing.
We are not DVLA or DVSA, and we do not represent those agencies.
Official records, clearly labelled
MOT history: DVSA
MOT tests, odometer readings and recorded defects are retrieved through the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s MOT history service. We arrange the records into a report and compare comparable mileage readings for decreases.
Vehicle and tax details: DVLA
The application has an integration with DVLA’s Vehicle Enquiry Service. That integration is currently unavailable. The report uses details supplied with available MOT records and labels DVLA-dependent information as unavailable.
Checks we do not currently offer
Outstanding finance, theft, insurance write-offs, keeper history, safety recall verification and market valuations are not part of the available free check. A missing result for any of these must not be interpreted as a clear result.
Paid checks and payment processing are not currently offered on the public website.
How to read our explanations
Summary text is generated from the available records using rules. It is not an independent vehicle inspection or a certified assessment of the car’s condition. Always review the underlying test entries and ask for evidence where the records need clarification.
